EditorialApril 2008I have been very busy with new ventures and updating existing sites. I
now have quite a portfolio of "webbie" stuff: November 2007Update of the site. September 2007So busy with other projects that I have not had time to look at the site for ages. I decided to do a major overhaul of the site, including a new look so that I could link to my other sites such as LRC Online, my Blog and my Del.icio.us bookmarks. I have also finally got around to making the pages that I suggested in May on Web 2.0, Library 2.0 and School Library 2.0. May 2007I will try to find some time this month to add some new pages on Web 2.0 and School Library 2.0. January 2007New role in school, helping to support the development of the website, VLE and portal. So I have been very busy with the new LRC website: LRC Online. Spent some time updating Strongest Links. November 2006New venture: after looking around for a good wiki site, I have now started a new Strongest Links Wiki for school librarians. This is as a result of discussions on SLN to the effect that we need a place to use as a "knowledge base". This new site will work in tandem with SLN and Strongest Links. As far as this site is concerned I have been working on updating the links and finding some new stuff for all sections. October 2006Oh dear! I have been so busy over the Spring and Summer that I have not spent much time doing the site. We had a lot of work done on the house and I would much rather spend time with my boys or in the garden when the weather is good. Well, it is now Autumn so I will try to spend more time updating sections and checking the links - promise! March 2006Hurray! We have now got broadband at last! So, have done some extensive link checking and also some new pages for the SLA School Librarian of the Year to celebrate the 2006 winners. Have asked their permission to add more information including photos - if they agree, I will add new pages on each of the Honour List librarians. January 2006I have been so busy in my new job - Federation Learning and Information Resources Team Leader. This entails continuing to run the LRC at Nicholas Chamberlaine Technology College as well as helping to set up a new LRC at Ash Green School, with which we have federated this year. This, together with training a new person at each school, has meant that I have had very little time to give to the site. Apologies to those who have been waiting for links to be added. I will try to check existing links and add new ones this month. September 2005Added some new pages on Advice and Policy writing. August 2005Extensive updating of site after a gap of some weeks. May 2005Added new page about the SLA School Librarian of the Year 2005. Some general updating in expectation of increased traffic during May and June. April 2005Finally finished a new set of pages about the School Library Association's School Librarian of the Year Award 2005. Each of the five Honour Roll Librarians have a page of information (written by themselves), with photographs courtesy of the SLA. January 2005I decided to change some of the focus of the site to make more obvious my interest in Children's Literature. After all, reading was one of the reasons that I became a Librarian in the first place! So, the rather small section on Web Design has been changed to Children's Literature and reading development. All of the links on books and authors have been moved to this part of the site and I intend to create a page on resources and organisations concerned with children's reading development - with a big emphasis on reading for pleasure! The links on the Web Design page have been moved into Miscellany and Info Lit where appropriate. November 2004I have just been to a fantastic conference about teenage fiction in Nottingham. After all that was said, I am thinking about how we can lobby for improved school libraries in the UK. Authors, publishers, SLSs and school librarians should be working together on this - I can feel a page coming on! In the meantime, I have updated the author links to include those who were speaking in Nottingham yesterday. October 2004So much research is coming from the United States that I have decided to make a new page listing it all by state. The general research has been left on the main page under the North America heading. Otherwise, general tidying up. I have also changed my email address and I might even be getting closer to updating the Information Literacy pages soon! August 2004Added a new page on my own activities to further the cause! Until I can think of a better name it is called "My Activities". Otherwise, general updating and some new additions, especially the new material "The School Library and the Key Stage 3 National Strategy". June 2004General tidying and updating of links. The main addition has been the new Self-Evaluation Package posted on the Teachernet Site by the DfES. This looks rather daunting, but we should all try to work towards using it as it could be a wonderful tool to help us move our school libraries/LRCs forward. May 2004There has been a bit of a gap since I last updated the site, but I have done a general "spring clean". I am still having computer problems at home, which I am trying to solve. The Intranet at school is now available to me and I have been attempting to learn Dreamweaver as I re-build the pages. The Nico Links section has now been removed and I will be able to update the Information Literacy section as soon as I have finished this at school. The Intranet version will be different, but I will be using many of the same links and resources, so I might as well do both at the same time. April 2004The site has now been up for a year! I was also asked to write a piece for the "My Favourites" section on the NgFL - horrible picture as we had to take it ourselves using the LRC's digital camera! February 2004Some new links added, including the new Ohio research. The site is now on the NgfL and I have added the logo. I have already been contacted by several site owners, many commercial, who would like me to link. My continuing policy is to only add links that I have evaluated myself and that I am happy to recommend to other UK school librarians. January 2004General updating. New "Nico Links" on Shakespeare added as I still do not have access to the Intranet. Apologies for the state of the Information Literacy Section. I have made a new page for a story that I wrote about living with an Autistic child - The Human Boy and the Martians. To encompass this and the page in tribute to my father, I have slightly reorganised the Site Information Section to include a Personal Section. I have been contacted by the NGfL about endorsing this site as they are creating a new section for school librarians. Will see what they think when they have assessed this site. The site will continue to be an independent voice for school librarians in the UK. To that end and to avoid confusion, I have removed my school address from the contact page. This site is made solely by me in my own time at home and not at school, although I do put some pages for my students on the site - "Nico Links". December 2003Updated several links. Some sites have been moved - will spend time when I can to find and update these. The Information Literacy section has still not been developed as I am unable to access the LRC's Intranet site after the changeover to Windows XP! This problem has been ongoing since the end of August. New "Nico Links" on Alien Life added for students at my school as I cannot edit the Intranet. October 2003During the school summer holidays, my family had to face the trauma of my father's illness and then his eventual death on September 15th. Many thanks are due to family, friends and the staff at my school for all their support during this very difficult time. This site has been written to support school librarians in as professional a way as possible, but it is still my own personal undertaking and so I feel no qualms about adding a page in tribute to my father. Extensive updating and new links have been added this month after a break of a few weeks. This is to ensure that the site continues to be of use to its target audience. Schools Library Services have been contacted and asked to check that their links are correct and to publicise the site to interested parties. School librarians were also asked to send me the URLs of their web sites. The Information Literacy section has still not been developed as I am unable to access the LRC's Intranet site after the changeover to Windows XP! August 2003Updating and new links added after a gap when my home PC was not working! The section on Information Literacy has been re-structured to enable new links when I can get them from my LRC's Intranet site. |
